Save Money, Be Healthy

I received a call today from my pharmacy to remind me that my thyroid prescriptions were due for a refill.  Because, of course, as usual, I needed to refill STAT since they tend to run out.

This gave me the perfect opportunity to try Walgreens since it's conveniently located in the same shopping center as my local Trader Joe's!

Little did I know how easy this process would be!

Setting-up a Walgreens online account will allow you to order your medication from anywhere in the world!

The entire online process to both set-up my online account and transfer two prescriptions took less than 10 minutes!  For a time-crunched person this is a HUGE upside.  (Just make sure to have your original prescriptions and your insurance card handy.)

I finished with my online medication transfer at 6:30 p.m. and can pick-up my medications in less than two hours!
The better part of this process?  I Walgreens gives you the option to pick-up prescriptions on the same day and receive a $25 Walgreens gift card for simply transferring medications!

It get's better!

With a little navigating on the Walgreens site, I found out that they also have a Prescriptions Savings Club.

"What's that?" you might be asking yourself.  Well, if you have good insurance, but not great when it comes for prescription coverage, this is exactly what the doctor ordered! (sorry about the pun, I just had to!)

Trust me when I say this, there are times that my lovely thyroid acts up and my prescription bill can be well over $100...per month!  That's with insurance.

Unfortunately, I can't afford not to take my medication, so I always look for cost-cutting ways to buy the medicine that will help me, literally, get out of bed.

This is where the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club comes in!  Not only do you pay a very nominal fee of $20 (or $35 per family) a year, the savings you receive go beyond your prescriptions:

The downside is, you have to wait 24 hours for the Walgreens Prescription Card to be activated if you sign-up online.  That is why I recommend that you sign-up in-store when you pick-up your prescriptions. (like I did!)

Look - No Line!

The upside is that the pharmacist will compare prices for you - while they ring-up your prescriptions - to make sure you are getting the best savings possible.  For example, one of my prescriptions had a better price when using my insurance, but on the second prescription I saved more than $20 per month when using the Walgreens Prescription Card!

In other words, what I saved paid for the Walgreens Prescription Savings Card and I received a $25 Walgreens Gift Card because I transferred my prescription for another pharmacy! In one year I will save $240 on ONE prescription.  How awesome is that?!

I got ALL THIS with my $25 Walgreens Gift Certificate (plus an additional $2.85!):
Walgreens Brand Baby Shampoo for my hubby and panty liners for me, travel-sized toiletries and
Goody hair clips to keep my hair off my face in the East-Coast humidity!
Guess where I am taking all these travel goodies?  BlogHer - of course!

I am very happy with my experience shopping at Walgreens and look forward to my second visit - tomorrow - to pick-up a second prescription!

I am also excited to learn from the pharmacist how else I can use the Walgreens Prescription Savings Card, including when shopping for doggie meds.  Yes, you read that right: Chatito can also get his allergy meds at Walgreens!
